Catherine: Welcome to the season finale of I Hate Talking About Myself, the podcast where the stars of Netflix series and films interview themselves. We write the questions, and they pull them out of a fishbowl.

For our final guest this season, we have actor and singer, Christina Milian. She’s been in the Billboard’s Top 100. She’s been in the teen rom-com, Love Don’t Cost a Thing. And, now, she’s the star of Netflix’s Falling Inn Love. That’s “inn” with two n’s because she plays Gabriella, a city girl who wins a county inn in rural New Zealand. So let’s hear from Christina Milian. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll get our own little, personal concert.

Christina: Hi, I’m Christina Milian, and I hate talking about myself. Which character have you played that you most want to get brunch with? What would you talk about? I love Paris Morgan. Paris Morgan in Love Don’t Cost a Thing—I think she’s just, like, a down-to-earth girl. She just really seems like, like she’s my girlfriend, like, she would be my friend. Matter of fact, she’s probably me. So, yeah, I would talk about myself.

Tell us about a time in your life when you made a conscious decision not to play it safe. Ooh, I mean, I guess, every relationship in my past, I didn’t play it safe. I probably knew the consequences, and I just jumped in love. I jumped in the airplane or car or something like that and said, “Let’s go.” I just knew it wasn’t safe. “Oh, who knows where this is going to take me?” But, at the end of the day, it was fun. It was a learning lesson. I had the time of my life. I mean, if we want to talk about taking risks and actually doing something I’m not used to doing, I did jump off of a bridge for fun in Puerto Rico when I shot this TV show with the rest of my cast. And there was a big, giant jellyfish. Right before I jumped in, I saw a big, giant jellyfish. Thank God I didn’t jump in when the jellyfish was passing.

Dracula or Frankenstein? Please choose. What? Dracula or Frankenstein? Dracula’s kind of bad-ass. He’s a little—he’s actually super scary. Frankenstein’s kind of a dope. So, I mean, I like spicy guys, so I’d go with Dracula. “I vant to suck your blood.” Frankenstein’s like, “Uh, Uh,” like, half of my ex-boyfriends.

If you got trapped with no reception and only five songs on your phone, what would you hope they were? Okay, I would say, one of them would be “Yeah!” “Yeah, yeah, yeah, da, da, da...” The other one would be Justin Timberlake, “You don’t have to say what you did, I al-…” Oh, I love that song. How does it go? It’s called—“No chance, you… Don’t it make… You told me you loved me. Why did you leave me all… “Cry Me A River.” Yes, I would listen to “Cry Me A River.” Destiny’s Child—it would be—oh, what’s the—which Destiny’s Child song? “Say My Name.” Another one would be, oh, Mariah Carey. Because if I just had no reception, I’d just have to cry my eyes out and be like, “I’d give my all to have...” What’s that song called? Anyways, you know it. If you heard me what I just sang, you know what I’m talking about. And, then, the number five, if that wasn’t five already, it would be Janet Jackson, “If.” Done.

What’s the most random fact or weirdest piece of history you know? This is a random fact, and this is very factual. I never knew this before. But before I went to New Zealand, I had no clue that the snakes and the spiders and insects—there are no poisonous snakes or spiders in New Zealand. So you can get bit—you can—they can strike you or something like that. You’re not going to die. You might get a rash or something, but there are no poisonous animals in New Zealand. Random fact.

What does the phrase “guilty pleasure” mean to me? I watch people do ASMR and do mukbangs on Instagram. That’s my guilty pleasure. My daughter got me into it. I love watching people overeat and, like, really noisy. Like, [slurping sound]. I can’t stand it in real life, but it’s awesome when you’re watching it on Instagram.

Do you collect anything? Tell us about your prize collection. And what do you want to start collecting someday? I do collect a lot of things. I get into things, like—I collect a lot of beads because I like to make beaded bracelets, necklaces, earrings. And, when I get into it and I go to a bead store, I buy everything you can think of. I’ve also collected porcelain dolls. I’ve—because I used to make them with my mom. I have a collection of, gosh, shoes. Yeah.

What’s your first extravagant purchase? My first extravagant purchase would have been, I guess, if you call it extravagant, it would have been my first time I bought myself a car. And it was a Dodge Durango. And it was awesome. I loved that car. And then my sister crashed it, and I was so mad. Totaled it—her and her boyfriend, going to Burger King, totaled my car.

What’s the first food you hated? And why? I rarely hate food. I love food. But, I guess, the one food I did not enjoy is horse. I was in Japan, in Tokyo, and I am a lawyer of trying all foods. And they served me horse. It was frozen, kind of, cold slice of meat. So it didn’t really offer me any flavor. I wasn’t excited about eating a horse. I was down just to say I did it, but there was no taste to it. So it really wasn’t worth it to me. And frozen, sliced meat—it kind of taste like a beef, I guess. It was kind of like frozen beef. But, anyways, frozen, sliced meat is not tasty, and it’s not worth eating horse.

All right, last one. Tell us five reasons we should watch your Netflix show or film. Okay, well, you should watch this Netflix movie, Falling Inn Love, because it is funny as hell. It is really, really funny rom-com. Like, romantic comedies are awesome. That’s one thing. Like, you always have, like, this broken situation that is, like, kind of, awkward. And next thing you know, like, things start happening between the female and the male char—or whomever—the two characters. And, next thing you know, it’s, like, love just sparks at the end, and you get that big kiss and stuff.  But, okay, you should watch this one because you get all that, but you also get a lot of comedy. And you get, like, these just, like, irresistible moments that you can just, like, you just smile and laugh. Number three, there’s a goat. I should have made that number one. There’s a goat in the movie, guys. And the goat overshadows everybody.

So, if you’re into goats—or not into goats—you’re going to be into goats after you see Gilbert because Gilbert’s pretty epic. There’s, like, these epic, crazy moments between Gabriela and the goat. Number four, it’s got a lot of heart, you know. I think movies with heart makes you feel something is important. I think it’s a great family movie. It’s a girls’ night in movie. It’s a date night movie. It’s a thing for everybody. So, why not? Hello, at its bliss.
